Hi, I acquired this today. It's gemsco marked. Can you tell me what design , era , common or not. Any I do would be appreciated.

That is an enlisted dress emblem 1955 to the present. Probably Vietnam era to early 80s.

I always thought using a forum like this was part of research, especially when I was brand new to the hobby. I asked many questions here and gleaned a lot of knowledge from more experienced collectors, especially before I owned all of the pricey reference books.

b-hinch has correctly Identified it as a post 1955 EGA.

 

There is not a large collectors market for the Modern Pattern Emblems. Fairly common pattern, however you don't see Gemsco marked versions that often. Not a bad for a "Modern" EGA, but not necessarily valuable either

 

teufelhunde.ret has an excellent suggestion. I have been collecting EGAs for many years, and was amazed at the information contained in this book

My advice to you is that If you want to pick up many more EGAs in the future, then invest in the books. They arrent cheap, but in my my opinion WELL WORTH IT. However, if you are only planning on picking up a few as you run into them, then keep checking here. There is a great reference section on this site and plenty of knowledgeable collectors that are willing to help. I believe that these books them selves are a great investment. Once they are out of print, they will only go up in value. The info contained in them to me is priceless. I have Identified a few Emblems that I have had for years using them.
