Was wondering if this is an Australian made Raider patch? If anyone cares to see the rest of the grouping just click on my profile and go to my recent USMC unit info post.Posted ImagePosted Image

Although this looks right for a WW2 Australian made, what they refer to as Bevo weave SSI, there is a very good reproduction out there that is believed to have been produced in Japan. The only way to tell them apart is by looking at the backing material which can't be done in this case. What I don't like about this SSI is the way it is stitched to the shoulder. You would think it would have a more flatter profile on the shoulder if it has been sewn there for 60 plus years.

This ones good

The Japanese ones have a differance in the skull and the material is more shiney than the originals and has a gloss to the material.More like the phoney bevo made vietnamese patches

I see what you are saying as the copies are probably made of a synthetic material like nylon while the originals were made of silk and have a softer more pliable feel to them without the gloss. Looking at the skull on the copy is seems to be a little skinner and elongated however I've kept photographs of a number of original WW2 era Australian Bevo SSIs and maybe 20% have this skinny elongated skull. Unfortunately I can't add photos of the Japanese copy because it is on a MS Word document I have and I can't locate the original photograph.
