USdog Posted January 11, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 11, 2017 I saw JFK's original dog tag while looking at the JFK library website. I thought it would be great to post it here for some dog tag enthusiast's to enjoy seeing! https://www.jfklibrary.org/Asset-Viewer/_2-KAteAx0uxXqQwcHWCfg.aspx

Adrian6256 Posted January 11, 2017 Share #3 Posted January 11, 2017 Thats awesome. I wonder where the other tags are? I visited the library in Boston a few years back, Im pretty sure they are on display there. To me the coolest piece on display was the Flag from PT109. Simply Amazing. USdog Posted January 11, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted January 11, 2017 Here's a shot of the whole piece I just found.... "John F. Kennedy wore this dog tag during his service in the United States Navy during World War II. Along with his dog tag, JFK wore a St. Christopher medal and an 1854 gold dollar coin, given to him for good luck by Clare Booth Luce, a family friend and member of the House of Representatives." https://www.jfklibrary.org/Asset-Viewer/RkDXu9Ou2Ey-kH7tEBzUew.aspx

12A54 Posted January 12, 2017 Share #7 Posted January 12, 2017 Very cool. What's the story on the flag? How was it saved when the Japanese ship cut the boat in half? Anyone know?
firefighter Posted January 12, 2017 Share #8 Posted January 12, 2017 Thats cool. I have never seen one with an actual rank, ENSIGN, on it.
29navy Posted January 13, 2017 Share #9 Posted January 13, 2017 In 1943, they changed the requirement for officers to have their rank on the tags to having their file number. Makes more sense than having an officer get a new tag when he got promoted.
