muddyboots Posted January 9, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 9, 2017 It was issued to Sgt James F Stevens who was a Armored Amphibian Commander for the assault on Roi of the Kwajalein Islands and then her was a Platoon Leader for the assaults on Guam and Okinawa. I know I he is on the October 1943 1st Armored Amphibian Battalion's Muster Roll but I think he was probably in a Artillery Battalion before, but not quite sure. There are several other men with the exact same name but the Arttilery Battalion has him as a Sgt before transfer. There is a book called Hitting The Beach: First Armored Amphibian Battalion in World War 2. I will be looking for a copy but the one that's online has pages that are missing and it's not showing any information on him except that he was in the Battalion and in Co. C . muddyboots Posted January 9, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted January 9, 2017 Did you get the other tag? That one sold for a song. Excellent tag. Unfortunately I didn't. I was still recovering from a severe head injury at that time and I didn't get on eBay that often. I would love it if it were offered for sale to me or there could be a trade for a tag as well. muddyboots Posted March 11, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted March 11, 2017 I was lucky enough to pickup the book for the 1st Armored Amphibian Battalion Hitting The Beaches and it is signed by Dale L Barker. I haven't read it completely yet but I can't wait till spring break I will. It has a glossary but it doesn't have the pages recorded as to what page the men are mentioned on. But at a glance the men that contributed are recorded nicely. Can't wait to read!!
roi-namur Posted February 19, 2022 Share #7 Posted February 19, 2022 Hi, You are correct sir. My dad was in Company "B" FAAB, tank B-4. I read that book 11 times and had the honor of attending 5 reunions. I have a copy of a diary written by Harry Paul "D" co. I also have a lot of my dad's war "souvenirs and have bought some stuff off eBay. I copied the photo of an LVT(A)-1 coming out of the bow of the LST from the internet and bought the original photo LVT(A)-1 from eBay. The marine is my dad. He attended 2 reunions and that's what he wore. I have more stories from the men I visited with. I think they have all passed. The last time I spoke to James Chandler "B" co. was last year and when I didn't get an answer this year, I realized why. If you have any questions, the FAAB is my favorite subject. thanks, dennis
