Hello

Any idea of the fact that sailors were searched before going on shore leave ?

I was figuring out they were trusted upon visula checking and declaring they did not have anything dangerous taken with them ?

Thanks

- I'm telling myself maybe it's not a search out of the ship -- but maybe back from leave to be sure no alcohol or any prohibited stuff will come aboard

- But generally speaking, it is a usual way of in / out process

When I was at Pearl in 1961 they would search you at the gate as you went out, to make sure you weren't carrying more than two packs of cigarettes. They did not want you dealing in black market!
