ordnance Posted January 3, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 3, 2017 Does anyone know if there is a chronological listing of U.S. military helicopter losses in Vietnam? There is a great book on American fixed wing aircraft losses by Chris Hobson but I need the equivalent resource for helicopters. A couple years ago, I found a Website that would detail the events of a crash when you plugged in the tail number of a bird. Great information but you need to know about a specific helicopter first to get any useful data. I'm specifically looking for data on crashes between January and March, 1965. As early as that time frame is, I don't think there were that many aircraft being lost on a daily or weekly basis. Thanks to anyone who might offer some suggestions. Kurt Barickman Posted January 3, 2017 Share #2 Posted January 3, 2017 I think there is but you need to search the individual unit such as the HMM 364 Purple Foxes. I could be wrong. Kurt
Swifter Posted January 3, 2017 Share #3 Posted January 3, 2017 Check out Joe Baugher's website. It lists every aircraft purchased by every service and in most cases, what the eventual disposition was. It's a fantastic resource. www.joebaugher.com
ordnance Posted January 8, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted January 8, 2017 Thanks for the responses. I did manage to connect with a link via Joe Baugher's site to the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association. I had visited their site before but never noticed there was a chronological listing of KIAs. That narrowed things down a lot but only covers those crashes or flight incidents where a crew member or passenger was killed. Presumably, a crash where all walked away is still recorded as a lost helicopter but not in that specific part of the data base as no fatalities occurred. Still a lot closer than I was before.
