lakenormanusa Posted December 23, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 23, 2016 Hello! I have a WWII era photo of Graydon Ray Ewald. The WWII memorial website states that he was at the Naval Air Technical Training Center, Norman, Oklahoma, Training Squadron 21, Marine Aviation Detachment. I wanted to see if he was ever stationed overseas. Thanks in advance! Rick

Eric Queen Posted December 23, 2016 Share #3 Posted December 23, 2016 Rick, according to the Marine Muster Roles on Ancestry he enlisted on 9/29/42 and the last entry I could find was from July 43 as part of the training squadron you mentioned. I don't see where he ever went overseas. Also, in the remarks section it shows that he was sick and in the USN hospital in Norman, Oklahoma for the entire month of July. He must have gotten out on a medical discharge.

I was able to contact his family and they are happy to be getting the photos back into their possession. (I believe the photos came from his Aunt's estate in 2004) His wife is 93 years old and has never seen these, so it was special to be able to connect with them. He was a beloved member of their family, so I wanted to get as much history as I could to add to the photos. Thanks again! Rick
