robinb Posted December 21, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 21, 2016 Some time back I picked up a good size group from Dan Fisher's family. He was in the 316th Sanitation Train. Lots of letters that he sent home, German insignias and helmet, photos, etc. But what really took me were his glasses. All of his things were stored in a cardboard box with "Uncle Dan" written on it, so I'm relatively sure these were his glasses in the Great War. Can you imagine having to wear and rely on this pair of glasses all day long?
268th C.A. Posted December 21, 2016 Share #2 Posted December 21, 2016 It just goes to show you the ingenuity of the doughboy. In situtations you make due with what you have. I guess it worked until he received a new pair. Still like you said its amazing he kept these....I think there pretty cool. Thanks for posting. Tennessee Posted December 21, 2016 Share #3 Posted December 21, 2016 Those glasses are really cool! They are his souvenir trench art! Thanks for sharing this neat artifact! David
GWS Posted December 21, 2016 Share #4 Posted December 21, 2016 Hope he only had to wear them in that condition for a short while! They certainly have that "been there, done that" look. I wonder how easy/difficult it was to have them repaired/replaced "over there"? Nice!
