cutiger83 Posted December 21, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted December 21, 2016 Gil, Thanks for posting the update. There are updates available to view on youtube. Since this is a forum for the preservation of history, I am surprised (but not really) at the high number of views but so few responses to an iconic airplane from WWII. ...Kat
Ronny67 Posted January 1, 2017 Share #5 Posted January 1, 2017 Why must this plane fly? People keep restoring WWII birds to "flying" condition, only to crash them when some of the 75 year old technology gives out. People die and historic aircraft are destroyed doing this. We have C-47s that fly. I think this one (especially with it's history) should sit inside where people can view it for ever, not just until something goes horribly wrong. Kind of like shooting a really rare old gun. Yeah it's fun, but it is getting worn faster than ever due to it's age, and the possibility of ruining it with an unforeseeable accident is great. Why shoot the No. 1 Springfield M1 Garand when you can run No. 1,556,075 with the same results and amount of enjoyment? I am not going to donate money to this project if their goals are to fly it. Restore it to be preserved and put it in a museum. Fly the South American Jungle C-47's with a coat of OD paint and invasion stripes....
cutiger83 Posted January 1, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted January 1, 2017 Their goal is to fly it over for the 75th anniversary of D-Day. Their goal is to fly it around our country to educate the young about D-Day and WWII. This plane will be seen by a LOT more people that it would sitting in a museum collecting dust. Just as the video says, this plane is meant to be flown not sitting in a hangar. There is NOTHING like the sound of a WWII plane flying in the air. There is NOTHING like flying in a WWII airplane. While you are certainly entitled to your opinion, I completely disagree. ...Kat

The Iron Brigade Posted January 1, 2017 Share #8 Posted January 1, 2017 All of us have different opinions on flying vintage aircraft. With that said, I made a donation to this project and being an old paratrooper, would love to jump from her on the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. nebelwerfer Posted January 12, 2017 Share #9 Posted January 12, 2017 I was working in a town near ramstein airbase in Germany, when we heard a strange noise, that was very different from the modern US Airforce aircrafts, that land on the base and fly over us regulary. I heard the sound of whiskey 7 that came to ramstein on its way to the 70th aniversery in normandy. we saw it coming out of the gray dust and I couldn't believe to see a C47 in low level flight over us. To see and hear this again, would be great! gruss christian
Junior45 Posted January 12, 2017 Share #10 Posted January 12, 2017 Hi, this is just a great Idea! i know there must be tons and tons of such projects, all as good as the others, but this one has a real impact! To see that bird up again over Normandy would be amazing, and I will happily make a donation!! Thank you for sharing, Regards JEB
