I think the badge is for the Public health service. Not an easy badge to find from any era, much harder to find a WWII vintage example. Nice find

I was expecting a PHS side button. Being that it has Army side buttons and is an EM hat (i.e., center band is plain, not mohair braid), it's possible someone just added the PHS badge to an Army hat. However, you never know. If anyone wouldn't know the proper regs for uniforms, it would be a PHS Medical Officer.

Any background on the cap? If straight from an attic or flea market junk box, I'd be more inclined to believe this is an "as worn" cap and not something put together by a collector.

At a minimum, you have a nice Army EM cap and a really nice PHS badge - much tougher to find than the bright WW2 version.

Thanks for the information. I bought this at a flea market in new York state this past August.
