Mr.Jerry Posted December 18, 2016 Share #26 Posted December 18, 2016 Great banners guys! That blue USMC one is awesome! I am still chugging away at my book on "Home front flags of WW1 & WW2", although it may make more sense for me now to break it in to 2 books, one just on service flags and one on everything else. Either way, I am hoping to get it done over the Christmas break. Still waiting for a publisher to bite, but if not I may just self publish as the college I work at has some great resources for the books they produce. 2017 is the 100th year anniversary of the Service flag! Love of flags Posted December 19, 2016 Author Share #32 Posted December 19, 2016 Does anyone know what the 75 in the middle of this service flag represents?Others will know better then I do still new to collecting these. But I've seen them before with a single star and a number that represented how many guys were off at war. But I've never seen one with multiple stars and a number. Maybe a division? I'm sure others can clean up the mess I'm making!

trenchrat1918 Posted December 20, 2016 Share #35 Posted December 20, 2016 Does anyone know what the 75 in the middle of this service flag represents? The number 75 is the number of servicemen. It's just a different way I doing it, usually you see these from large corporations or cities. I've got one that I loaned Me.Jerry for his book with 1738 service men. Mr.Jerry Posted December 20, 2016 Share #40 Posted December 20, 2016 Thanks guys! me either. I think you see the numbered ones with just the "number" as well as with all the stars and the number, and then like this one where what seemed to be an attempt at the stars, then giving up and just using a written number. I even have one that has a clear pocket so you can change the number as more joined up. I also have one with a different written number on the front than back! most of the written numbered ones I have seen seem to be from WWII. that is a nice unusual horizontal numbered one, is it yours? I Hate Moths Posted July 3, 2020 Share #44 Posted July 3, 2020 Here is the one that i made for my son Imran. I displayed it while he was serving in Afghanistan. The components are all individually cut pieces, and are also on the reverse . I gave it to him when was discharged. We are very proud of him. Bodes Posted August 15, 2020 Share #45 Posted August 15, 2020 This is a 12" X 18" pressed felt banner I picked up a while back....Does it look like WW2 era?....The hanger that goes through a loop in the top, is a brass or copper material which concerns me....These would have been materials critical to the war effort....Any thoughts appreciated...Bodes
Collector5516 Posted August 15, 2020 Share #46 Posted August 15, 2020 Looks WWII-era to me. Also features a 48 star flag which would indicate pre-1960 manufacture.
