INIMICUS Posted December 10, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 10, 2016 another pair, mates. I searched hi and lo for the trademark - nothing for it or 'the hallmark of quality' stamp inside upper rim…. thanks.

John Conway Posted December 10, 2016 Share #3 Posted December 10, 2016 They sure could pass for WW1 era Army service shoes - maybe officer's (private purchase) as worn with puttees or leggings.
INIMICUS Posted December 10, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted December 10, 2016 thans a bunch, john. very grateful. brit army or yank? I'd thought maybe women's auxiliary work boots.
INIMICUS Posted December 10, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted December 10, 2016 I KNOW THERE WERE EXCEPTIONS, BUT IT SEEMS ALL THE STANDARD SHOES FROM ABOUT 1902-ON HAVE 'DOUBLE-SIDED' LACING GROMMETS; MINE ARE ONLY 'HALVES' I.E. THE EXTERIOR HOLES ARE UN-GROMETTED. AND LOOKING CLOSELY, THERE ARE NO CIRCULAR IMPRESSIONS ON THE EXTERIOR HOLES -- MEANING IF THE HOLES DID HAVE (WHAT? 2-PIECE?) GROMMETS THAT WERE REMOVED FOR SOOME OBSCURE REASON THERE'D BE SUCH AN IMPRESSION. TO MY INEXPERT EYES, ODD. ALSO THE HEEL TREATMENT OF MINE IS DIFFERENT, WITH NO HORIZONTAL SUPPORT STITCHING, AND INSTEAD A 'LAZY S' BACK PIECE FROM TOP EDGE TO SOLE. PLUS, THE TONGUE IS LINED WITH A SORT OF WHITE COTTON FELT. LASTLY, AND I KNOW THIS IS A LESSER ISSUE: NO TOE CAP. SO, A PERMITTED EXCEPTION FOR AN OFFICER OF MEANS ABLE TO AFFORD CUSTOM SHOES AS THESE EVIDENTLY ARE? ('THE HALLMARK OF QUALITY' STAMPING AND TRIANGLES INSIDE) THANKS AGAIN! John Conway Posted December 10, 2016 Share #6 Posted December 10, 2016 I'm thinking Yank and yes, and private purchase as the missing details you have pointed out seem to indicate. I have a pair very similar but stored so I can't get to them promptly to check against details you mentioned.
