Roby Posted December 8, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 8, 2016 Hello everybody, I would like to ask your opinion about a modified DCU of the 173rd airborne that I recently found on ebay and in doubt about purchasing it or not. The DCU in question is the modified version with the lower pocket removed and added to the sleeves. It has the 173rd patch on the left shoulder, american flag on the right shoulder, us army tape, basic wings with combat jump star and CIB single award. No name tape and ranks. My doubt about this DCU was that it has no combat patch above the american flag and this seems odd to me since there is a CIB. I would like to know from someone more expert than me if this combination of a CIB but not a combat patch is possible or not. My doubt arise from the fact that in order to get a CIB you must be deployed and so you would be allowed also to wear the combat patch. Thank you very much to everyone that will answer!! P.S. I'm new to the forum and I don't know if the rules allow me to post a picture from the current auction. If it were possible I would post it

PriorityOne Posted December 8, 2016 Share #4 Posted December 8, 2016 When I saw this post I went and checked mine. Mine came straight from a surplus store for cheap, so I kinda doubt mine is fake. I never thought about the CIB without combat patch till now.
Mercenary25 Posted December 8, 2016 Share #5 Posted December 8, 2016 Right as rain. I have a BDU and Modded DCU named to a soldier who made combat jump. He chose not to wear combat patch on his modded DCU but his "garrison" BDU has it.

atb Posted December 9, 2016 Share #9 Posted December 9, 2016 Remember, wear of a former wartime service shoulder sleeve insignia is not mandatory.
doyler Posted December 9, 2016 Share #10 Posted December 9, 2016 Your shirt looks fine Agee wih atb. Also not uncommon a shirt like this was worn while still serving in the unit when deployed.Haveing CIB or CAB on the uniform doesnt designate prior service. Many are awarded while still in the unit during the deployment I recently found a 34th division DCU with CIB,flag on right sleeve and no combat patch
