Croyle was born in 1895 and passed in 1981. From his obit: Lyman Croyle, 86, of Emporium, formerly of Austin and Stoystown, died Dec. 12, 1981, at Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital, St. Mary's, Pa. Born May 11, 1895, in Shade Township, son of Harry Luther and Arminta (Lohr) Croyle. Preceded in death by parents; and sister, Melda Zimmerman. Retired postal employee. He was an Army veteran of World War I; and a Marine veteran of World War II. A charter member of Robert P. Hite Post 257 American Legion Stoystown. Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Jeffrey A. Welsh officiating. Interment, Oddfellows Cemetery, Stoystown. WWI Service: Lyman Croyle, entered service Oct. 4, 1917 at Somerset, PA as PFC in Hdqrs Co., 1st Amm. Tr., 1st Div. Service in U.S. from Oct. 4, 1917 to Feb. 17, 1918. Foreign service from Feb. 17, 1918 to Sept. 25, 1919. Engagements: Somme Def., Cantigney, Aisne-Marne, Toul Sect., St. Mihiel & Meuse-Argonne. Discharged Sept. 25, 1919 at Camp Dix, NJ. Dependents: mother & father. Located at Philadelphia, PA. Employed as mail clerk. Physical condition: fair.Source: Survey of World War Veterans of Somerset Co., Pa., 1936; WPA He then in 1942 enlisted in the USMC, his MOS 458: Dog Trainer-Security and guard and he was stationed his entire time at the Naval Aviation Base Lakehurst, NJ and was discharged in 1945.
