TheSemiHistorian Posted December 6, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 6, 2016 Hello there! I've been getting the Cold War jitters recently looking at Checkpoint Charlie and underground commands. What would one need for a full Berlin Wall impression circa 1961 when the Crisis was making headlines? Would love to piece together something a bit more unique than my WWII stuff! Speaking of WWII, would M1943 field jackets been used at the Wall in the 50s and 60s? Cheers
patches Posted December 7, 2016 Share #2 Posted December 7, 2016 1st Pattern Fatiques with full color cloth insignia. Black Combat boots pre 1963 with Toe Cap. M1910/M1945 OD #7 Web Gear or M1956 Web Gear or a mix of both, with metal canteen. M1 Steel Helmet, with NO Mitchell/Leaf Cover, these will be left bare, or have a Duck Hunter/Parachute Camouflage Cover, or a makeshift wide mesh net, but in the main, helmet bare M1 Rifle or M2 Carbine (new M14 Rifles start be issued out at this time). Martinjmpr Posted December 7, 2016 Share #4 Posted December 7, 2016 I would think the correct field jacket would be the M1951, wouldn't it? Dad was in the Army in Germany from 1959 - 63 and he had an M1951 field jacket.

Yes the M51 was standard, M67 comes out starting in late 1966 really as witnessed by this November 1966 foto of Trainees, who would be among the first troops to see issuance of this new item. patches Posted December 8, 2016 Share #7 Posted December 8, 2016 Thanks for the photo and info guys! I made a big error in post #5, it will of course be the M65 field Jacket, I said M67 I guess I said M67 because that when it seen it's full scale issuance and availability, in 1967 . MattS Posted December 13, 2016 Share #9 Posted December 13, 2016 I will have to look around, but I think I have early 1960s black combat boots if you need them.
