I'm working on getting the information right for Volume 2 of my series on posthumous Purple Hearts, and I am looking for photos of engraving on Navy posthumous Purple Hearts from the Vietnam War "era" (e.g. 1960s through early 80s). I've been lucky enough to photograph several still with families, particularly ones from the USS Liberty incident as well as some terrorist acts from that time period, and I've had the opportunity to photograph a good number in museums as well. I think I have probably found all the photos of them here on the USMF too. :) I'm learning that the more I find, the more I don't know!

So...what I'm asking is...if you happen to run across any posthumous Navy Purple Hearts from that time period, or happen to have one (or more) in your collection, if you could simply snap a photo of the engraving and either e-mail or PM it to me. Likewise, if you happen to run across any in a museum or that a dealer might have...let me know and I'll contact them to get a photo of the engraving (or if it's easier for you to do it, please do!) :)

This information will be of future benefit to all collectors and historians, so I truly do appreciate your help.

Dave

And just to clarify...this is only for Navy killed in action Purple Hearts. I've pretty well nailed down the engraving for the Air Force, Army, and Marine Corps. Of course, if you happen to have access to one of the Coast Guard posthumous Purple Hearts from Vietnam, I might just become your new best friend... ;):D

Hi Dave

Are you selling vol. 1? If so where my i pick up a copy,Jay

Hi Jay-

It's almost to the publisher, and will be out next year. Right now, it's running 1,300+ photos, covering 500+ posthumous Purple Hearts (and other posthumous medals, from the Medal of Honor on down) from the Navy, Marine Corps, Army, Army Air Force, Coast Guard, and Public Health Service from the WW2 time period. I expect it will probably out around Christmas of next year.

Thanks!

Dave

Here's an example just for reference. (The current owner wishes to keep the last name of the recipient private.)

Bumping this back up...I'm also going to open the aperture a bit...I'm interested in any Navy engraving from 1950 to the present.

Thanks!

Dave
