Guidons - definitive histories/sources, please

Has anyone yet come up with any definitive comprehensive, by service branch or otherwise, linkable historical references, in book or electronic or any other form which depict images of guidons and provide narrative.

There are several ones that skirt the issue or deal with it partially, and maybe that is the best one can hope for... and maybe my search skills are not up to par. Googling has its limitations when it comes to getting right down to the meat of the matter - the guidon itself.

However, it would be great if we could do a bit here to list them out, the ones we know and are confident of, so that a general search on USMF could yield some resources for future guidon lookers, or former Right Guides such as myself who just cannot forget about it (or those amazing cadence calls).

Might fly, might not.

Hope it does.

Once I was done with my "Home front flags of WW1 & WW2" book I was hoping to start on a "Unit flags" book, or possibly do them all as a part of a series of "Flags of War - Vol. III: Regimental and Unit flags " I have been collecting flags, QM publications, and photos in use. But I am still waiting to get a publisher on my home front flags book, if no one jumps soon I may utilize my college connections and self publish.

Have you tried sending a book proposal to Schiffer Publishing, Ltd.?

Thanks guys! I do have a submission into Schiffer, but so far just crickets. They sent me a "no thanks" letter a few years ago, but I wanted to try again now that I am closer to completion with some sample pages to share the vision of "fun with flags". I will try Arcadia too.

Sounds like a very worthwhile project.

Good luck to you, and be sure and keep us posted.

I'm working on a book of my own, topic unsaid... But I'm going to self publish. I've got a name picked out for my publication company and so forth. You need a publisher name to get an ISBN number, which I will be doing. They come in blocks, as in you can't get just one, so if you want one, let me know and I'll get an organization registered and send one your way.

Back to guidons.... I've got a collection of them. If you go through my posts, you can see where I've been showing some lately. I've put together a spread sheet and have it buried somewhere, but I was noting trends. Materials, color of the leather tab, types of QM tags, dates, interior like sleeve color, etc. There are some issues, in that clearly WW2 produced flags were unit parked in the postwar period and used for quite a while. The QMC must have had thousands of infantry flags in storage... But there are certainly beginning dates to use, and that can track some. I'd be interested in helping here if I can. Taking pics, data, whatever.

I'm still after a chemical Corp and a tank destroyer flag, if anyone has one to spare. Got most of the rest covered.

It was a better than good hunch someone here, if nowhere else, collected some or many guidons, knows a fair amount about them... and it is a nice thought to look forward someday there being a comprehensive book or books.

A considerable undertaking, without doubt - but, what an amazing document it will be.

I'll see what, if anything, I can gather from the Air Force side and feed it back in here over time.

Anything I can do to help.

I've seen some regulation stuff online, the military still has books on this in print. I would be curious to see the changes out there.
