abqpropguy Posted December 3, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 3, 2016 I received this photo today purchasing it on eBay. It looks like Marines with the Navy checking out a new style of boat? Any thoughts on what and when this is happening?
MastersMate Posted December 3, 2016 Share #2 Posted December 3, 2016 Looks like an Admirals Barge, motor powered, no smoke stack for a steamer. Judging by the ferry, maybe Mare Island or Puget Sound, pre 1920 by the admirals cap. Gold shoulder marks on the overcoat.
KurtA Posted December 3, 2016 Share #3 Posted December 3, 2016 Looks like a WW1 overseas chevron on the cuff of the sailor in the center. So, if pre 1920, how about 1919?
P-40Warhawk Posted December 3, 2016 Share #4 Posted December 3, 2016 That resembles Admiral Sims. Neat photo.

MastersMate Posted December 3, 2016 Share #6 Posted December 3, 2016 If you can make out the name on the ferry, above the pilot house, you can chase down the location.

MastersMate Posted December 6, 2016 Share #10 Posted December 6, 2016 I don't believe they are the same ship.. Check for any information concerning Rhode Island ferries between Newport and other ports in the state of Rhode Island. Newport was a big Navy town, and before the bridges there was quite a system of ferries connecting the state together. I did not have any luck doing just s quick check. The ferry is definitely a small auto & walk on vessel. Probably around 100 to 125 feet judging by the picture.
