Desertrat Posted December 2, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 2, 2016 This topic is being discussed on another forum and I figured I see what y'all think... I will start it off: 1. US made 101st Airborne Division- come on guys, they are not all that rare 2. US made 2nd Infantry Division-big patches don't always mean big prices 3. US made 29th ID- great battle history but $20 plus?????

KurtA Posted December 2, 2016 Share #3 Posted December 2, 2016 101st Airborne far and away. Along with all the insane "types" associated with it.

Eric Queen Posted December 2, 2016 Share #5 Posted December 2, 2016 Popularity of unit vs. actual rarity of item. I think there are a lot of examples. US made Marine Raider/Paramarine, FSSF, etc. I don't think they are any more rare than any other massive US contract type patch. Then there are the "green backs" which I really don't get. Who cares? Patchcollector Posted December 2, 2016 Share #6 Posted December 2, 2016 Then there are the "green backs" which I really don't get. Who cares? I think that the greenback issue has less to do with the color, and more to do with them being associated with early wartime manufacture. That is what is most important to me anyway. Patchcollector Posted December 2, 2016 Share #7 Posted December 2, 2016 I've been looking to acquire a nice OD Border 2nd Corps Patch for a decent price and just have'nt found any.I'm wondering why are they so (relatively)expensive?

David D Posted February 21, 2017 Share #9 Posted February 21, 2017 Agree with basically everything in this thread. Patch prices are ridiculous
tredhed2 Posted February 21, 2017 Share #10 Posted February 21, 2017 ODB 82nd & 101st Abn Divs. Various "types" of 101st Abn Div patches. All are 101st Abn Div, no more, no less. GB patches. Still a basic patch, no more, no less. 101st Abn Div S-2 cuff patches (with sphinx).
No Quarter Posted February 21, 2017 Share #11 Posted February 21, 2017 I think Band of Brothers created the large price spike with 101st patches. After watching it for the first time, I wanted a 101st patch really bad haha. But I agree that the prices are too high, including the one I bought. mortaydc60 Posted February 22, 2017 Share #12 Posted February 22, 2017 Dave, I agree with two of the four points ie. greenback and 101st. What is basis for ODB 82 ,101 and 101st S-2 being over rated and over priced? Yes they are pricey and yes they are rare and highly desireable; but is it because when all is said and done it is a 20cent patch at time of purchase. Why is a free Honus Wagner card with purchase of Player cigarette pack worth 250,000? If that is argument you are right! Hobby collecting has it's own set of rules of engagement and they do not necessarily make sense or are rational. As the saying goes"it is what it is".
