SergeantMajorGray Posted December 1, 2016 Share #11 Posted December 1, 2016 I'm highly interested as well. I've been one of the few to handle the collection on board.
Mustang Posted December 2, 2016 Share #12 Posted December 2, 2016 Maybe the owner of the helmet does not want to share the helmet's story in case the helmet did not leave the ship with the former named owner. It is still nice to know the helmet has not lost it's provenance.I have been to BB55 many times since I was a child.I love the way that over time more of the ship's treasures are being discovered and documented. warpath Posted December 2, 2016 Author Share #13 Posted December 2, 2016 I'll ask the owner if he would care to share, but I think the images are sufficient for now. Ed

KRIS FORD Posted February 18, 2018 Share #20 Posted February 18, 2018 Even into the mid '90's, CVN-73 still had gray steel pot helmets..in racks near Damage Control lockers..to be worn at General Quarters and for damage control parties.
svt40 Posted February 18, 2018 Share #21 Posted February 18, 2018 Even into the mid '90's, CVN-73 still had gray steel pot helmets..in racks near Damage Control lockers..to be worn at General Quarters and for damage control parties. The USS Normandy did as well. Not a single one was in WWII configuration though. I went through every single helmet rack I could find when I had nothing to do on night check!!
