A British Soldier of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps circa 1960-61 builds one of those Atomic Cannon 1/32 scale kits. Not sure if he's a modeler and building it for his own hobby, or he's a soldier who has the hobby and is doing it in the line of duty, since he's a RAOC soldier this last is a good possibility. Do not know what company's kit this is, a few companies made them as we see in the googly search page, but I'm not seeing this particular box in the depicted images, any one else know the company on box in photo, box as we see is a bit obscured.

This photo comes from a 1962 book titled Model Soldiers, and I had it back in the old days when I was a kid, the 1972 reprint, which I got in that year. Haven't had it in like 37 years, but was able to track it down on Amazon several months ago by remembering the cover and get it again.

Original Copies are still to be had on Amazon if anyone's interested.

Nice picture of the U.S. Atom Annie model kit. Looks like it's the one from Frog Delux. The young modeler seems to be a member of the British Royal Army Ordnance Corps.

The ADAMS ACTION MODELS model company (1950's) offered a smaller scale Atomic Cannon kit than the model in the photo. And for the record, the model depicted is the RENWAL models at 1:35 scale. The FROG model was built under license agreement with RENWAL. More recently REVELL released this model again, I have one (but not built!)

I guess this Atomic Cannon wasn't really that Top Secret if models were being made of it so soon back there in he 50s.

Wonder if the Soviets sent some of their spy's in the west to buy some kits to send back to the USSR so they could copy and make real Atomic Cannons of their own

During Nike-Herc school, a classmate asked about the purpose of the ram pressure static probe. "That's classified secret,' the instructor told him. "You'll have to wait until the secret part of the course." Instead of waiting, he bought a Revel kit, whose instructions answered his question.

What year was this?

 If I seem to recall correctly, didn't Tamiya have that Sgt York DIVAD kit in 1/35 scale out in the early 80s before this AFV was even in our inventory (albeit briefly as this AFV was a flop).

Strangely enough, it's this sort of thing that has been an issue with combat flight simulations. The current legal owners of the designs and names of the aircraft can't afford to do anything that may set a legal precedent, so it can be hard to allow official use of the aircraft in the simulation.

My Dad had that modelling book at one time.

Seeing these different makers of the Atomic Cannon puts me in mind of this old kit, remember this one guys! I still got the rock, used it in a dio I did in the mid 90s of those Tamiya Germans in overcoats

In it's various different boxes over the years 60-70s, I think this was even made by another firm before MONOGRAM? Seem to recall this kit by another company when I was real little in the 60s, company started with an A.

That's interesting, ROCO once sold the same U.S. soldiers in 1/72 or 1/86 scale. I think we discussed theses in another thread.

Revell offered a "box of GI's" around the late 1950's similar to Monogram's release. I think Revell had a likeness of General Patton in their offering.
