Some of you may have sen this before on the internet, however for those who have not, I wanted to share it here. Unfortunately there are a lot of names in the jacket, but the Soldier who owned it has his name rather faded.

Not the same as my jacket, which has high pockets like the first pattern HBT shirts... One thing I think is AWESOME is the Burma Star ribbon... I've got a uniform to a 10th AF Combat Cargo crew chief that has that in his rack even though it was totally unauthorized according to a post I made asking about it.

I wonder if this one didn't start life as a normal MARS jacket, then had the chest pockets removed and replaced with the lower pockets, maybe sourced from MARS pants?

It certainly looks modified. Unfortunately there are no tags in it. Thanks for checking it against yours!

Wow, killer jacket. Love everything about it. Tics all the boxes. Would be a cornerstone of any collection.

Interesting how he has 2 British Commonwealth medals, 1939-45 star and The Burma Star. Perhaps he was with Wingates Raiders prior to joining the task force?

Really great piece. Thanks for posting.

Cheers,

Matt

I have a 10th AF pilots medals/patch group. He has 3 Brit medals and RAF Wings in the group. I am assuming he was prior RAF then in to USAAF but so far NO records on him other then he was a member of Hump Pilots/14th AF Assn after the war. No serial number with the group so hard to sort out. Archives ck so far had nothing. Possible grave headstone on him but Natl. Cemetery will not release any data on him referred back to St Louis. Point is maybe these folks worked with the Brits for a while and decided they should have their service ribbons, etc. IF they were prior Brit service and earned the medals then they wore them with nobody questioning AT THE TIME. Anyhow a very neat shirt with killer patches.!

  • 1 month later...

A really great jacket and, as stated above, the inclusion of the British ribbons is interesting. I have seen American ribbon bars with Burma Star ribbons before; I wonder how many of these were self-awarded, totally unofficially, to stand out among other Asiatic-Pacific veterans.
