hink441 Posted November 6, 2016 Share #1 Posted November 6, 2016 Found this flag at a local flea market. My guess is that it was awarded to an Aegis Combat System equipped surface warship. It is double sided, and nicely embroidered. Anybody seen this before?? Chris

Dave Posted November 6, 2016 Share #3 Posted November 6, 2016 I think those pre-date my experience with AEGIS as I've never seen one before and I got involved in the program in 2001. I'm guessing maybe 90s?

jeb137 Posted November 9, 2016 Share #5 Posted November 9, 2016 I served on an AEGIS cruiser from 93-96. Never saw or heard of this flag before today. Jon B. Newaygo MI
sigsaye Posted November 9, 2016 Share #6 Posted November 9, 2016 Here is the tag. Heavy duty construction. image.jpeg . I never saw this flag before. But, "US Flag and Signal" is (was) a flag maker in Virginia Beach that custom made flags. We would take designs to them to have ships flags made up. I have several Desert Shield/Desert Storm flags they made.
Dave Posted November 9, 2016 Share #7 Posted November 9, 2016 I feel silly...should have just googled it... https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=navy%20and%20award%20and%20%22aegis%20excellence%22 and a specific presentation: http://www.veedennis.com/aegis%20award/aegis.html I'm guessing this small sized flag was either used indoors (like framed and on a wall) or belonged to a smaller building with a smaller flagpole so it could be displayed below a larger US flag. hink441 Posted November 10, 2016 Author Share #8 Posted November 10, 2016 Ok, so it is an award from the Naval Sea Systems Command and it is awarded to various shipbuilding/contractors in the AEGIS program. Thanks Dave. Chris

Posting the photos Dave found before the link becomes broken and 'lost' along with patches from the AEGIS test vessel USS NORTON SOUND (AVM-1) from my collection In 1995 Vee Dennis was the recipient of the prestigious AEGIS Excellence Award for Outstanding Performance. We were chosen for this award by the U.S Navy in conjunction with Lockheed Martin.
