Gunslinger Posted October 27, 2016 Share #1 Posted October 27, 2016 The purpose of this post is to document the inventory codes to the correct insignia as sold by the Harry S. Wosk Army Navy Store during 1940's. Some may ask why?? The answer is quite simple, currently there is seperate post that was started OCS about week ago questioning some insignia being sold by a seller on eBay. Here is the link to the discussion for those who are interested: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/276982-have-a-bunch-of-harry-s-wosk-tags-laying-around/. The information provided below a partial list of the most common insignia on the market and should be used as a reference source only. I would encourage other member to help complete the list of inventory codes. Plate no. 1 - US Navy, Air Corps and Army You may have noticed under the USN section some Aviation insignia sport a 7MR** code vs 7NR** (gold on navy), the codes are correct to the piece. I wanted to be 100% sure these were labeled correctly by Harry S. Wosk store, so i started researching Naval Aviation marks in the Navy Department Library for identification. I'd found 'The use of this mark was discontinued in 1935 and then re-established in World War II, relating to the use of the yellow specialty mark'. Some information suggest these insignia were made for US Navy personnel serving with the Marine Corps. Plate no. 2 - Marine Corps Take note of the multiple codes used for Marine Corps Divisions. The source of the Harry S. Wosk codes came from insignia that are currently or have sold from my collection, in which i have no concerns of Authenticity for these items. Regardless of whom ever have the insignia, they will have the same Harry S. Wosk codes as documented above. Hopefully members will find this as helpful resource, especially those collectors with a interest in NOS insignia. CDub
