BILL THE PATCH Posted October 27, 2016 Share #1 Posted October 27, 2016 This is the other uniform that I picked up a couple of weeks ago, he is the brother inlaw of the 36th div uniform I posted a couple of days ago. His name is Donald R. Miller, ser#. 12170366, he enlisted in 2/11/42. Nice class a with 3 place ribbon bar, DFC, AM W/ two oak leaf clusters, eto ribbon. Came with extra patches one was the 15th and, which matches up perfectly with the ghost outline on jacket. I checked the breast pocket and Bingo a nice set of gunner wings. One prong is missing. There's also a Enlistedmans dress hat, but I not sure who it belongs to. It's either his or his brother in-laws. The guy from the 36th div. But this is the nicest visor hat I ever found. I mean really mint condition. This is the second gunner uniform I have for a 15th AF individual. If anyone can find out what BS he was in.i would greatly appreciate it. Garandomatic Posted October 27, 2016 Share #11 Posted October 27, 2016 Unless you get lucky with some searching, you just about have to look at www.wwii-enlistment.com and find his service number based on either laundry mark or geographic region of the country. Then, a researcher can pull the awards cards for you if you have his ASN, and they may have forthcoming information. Might need to track down the GO for the award, though, and that process can be pretty difficult to be honest because it's rough to find exactly where the GO is. In this case you have his name and asn. This is all you need to start. I would request his record from NARA first. Intact air corps records will list his award GOs and often his missions. If his record was destroyed, then request his award cards. The cards have the GO numbers on them, and you can use the numbers to request the GOs. No mystery on the GOs. Aren't they sometimes a bit disorganized in how or where they are kept though? I don't recall what it was about them, but Geoff told me it was kind of rough to find the exact GO at times... The GOs themselves are easy to source if you have the number. A name alone won't work. That is why you need either a service record entry or the award cards for USAAF personnel.
