jprostak Posted October 26, 2016 Share #1 Posted October 26, 2016 I'm trying to fill in some missing information in my research on first aid pouches. The annual reports show that Rock Island Arsenal made "Model of 1904" First Aid Pouches in the fiscal years 1904, 1905 and 1906. In addition, unfinished Model 1904 pouches were modified in 1909 to hold the larger 1907 bandages. What I need to know is this; 1) Does anyone have 1905 and 1906 dated first aid pouch unmodified to a larger pouch? 2) I have pouches dated 1905 and 1906 that were modified to larger pouched. Does anyone have a modified pouch dated 1904? Thank You in advance. Jon P
Ronnie Posted October 27, 2016 Share #2 Posted October 27, 2016 In what way were they "modified"? Looks to me as though the pouch on the right is just a larger size pouch? Ronnie
Keystone Posted October 27, 2016 Share #3 Posted October 27, 2016 I have a 1904 unmodified and a 1906 modified. Ronnie, in answer to your question the Ordnance department actually re-sowed the pouches and removed the male parts of the snap and moved them further up the face of the pouch to make the pouch larger. The holes from the removed snaps were filled with the eyelets. This was to accomodate the larger M1907 bandage. Tim
world war I nerd Posted October 27, 2016 Share #4 Posted October 27, 2016 Jon, I checked all the images I have of 1904 & modified 1904 First Aid pouches and had none of the requested dates or patterns.
