Red Devil Posted October 25, 2016 Share #1 Posted October 25, 2016 Hi All, Here's a recent pickup. Appears to be an early utility shirt patched to the Special Forces, but what I find interesting is that there is no tab with the patch, and no evidence that there ever was one on this shirt. It is my understanding that there was a period of time that the patch was worn before a tab was authorized in the mid 50s, and perhaps this will date to that time period. Patch is cut-edge and came carefully creased. Does anyone know any way to research early rosters of officers? My searching for Captain Phillips in Special Forces brings up hundreds of results from a recent Tom Hanks movie There is a laundry tag, I think it is, inside the flap. All feedback and direction much appreciated!

firefighter Posted October 25, 2016 Share #4 Posted October 25, 2016 Nice shirt. Is there a date?
P-40Warhawk Posted October 26, 2016 Share #5 Posted October 26, 2016 Nice OG utility shirt, 1950s manufacture. The registers have a lot of 'Phillips' in them, should be able to find a 1950s one online (if you have ancestry, I think they have registers too). e19 Posted October 26, 2016 Share #8 Posted October 26, 2016 The teal SF arrowhead was authorized ('55) before the yellow on black tab was authorized('58), however the arrowhead was worn with the teal tab prior to that.
P-40Warhawk Posted October 26, 2016 Share #9 Posted October 26, 2016 This shirt was probably made in a window where tags weren't used, but the contract info was printed in black ink and is probably washed out. If you don't see the stitching outline where a tag was on the inside front (bottom), then it was probably ink. Check the inside neck area for traces. Red Devil Posted October 27, 2016 Author Share #10 Posted October 27, 2016 Thank you for the feedback. After looking again, I can barely discern faint ink stamps, but nothing legible.
