MattS Posted October 23, 2016 Share #1 Posted October 23, 2016 I think I found an experimental version of the Air Force officers cap badge (1947-49 era) today. I have only seen one photo of it in use, and it was on this forum. I cannot find it now, and I went through the 29 page post on Air Force uniforms. Can anyone help me out? Thank you! Bluehawk Posted October 23, 2016 Share #4 Posted October 23, 2016 THAT, is a very strange looking USAF badge. Very interested in knowing more about it, also.
Mark1 Posted October 23, 2016 Share #5 Posted October 23, 2016 This badge was one of several hat badges considered for the United States Air Force, but was not picked or authorized for wear. Probably not may of those out there. This is the one that was picked. Mark
MattS Posted October 23, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted October 23, 2016 Yes, that much I know. I have a few USAF caps, and I agree, probably not many of these floating around. I was wondering if anyone knew of a photo of these being worn during uniform trials. I finally found the photo I was looking for, but it's the wrong pattern of experimental cap badges. MattS Posted October 23, 2016 Author Share #9 Posted October 23, 2016 Thanks! I know they weren't issued, but there surely is a photo somewhere of one on an officer's cap for trial purposes.
Wake1941 Posted October 23, 2016 Share #10 Posted October 23, 2016 I've never seen a photo of one issued it would be interesting to see one. Not totally sure the time period this would have been used
MattS Posted October 23, 2016 Author Share #11 Posted October 23, 2016 Here's the rear of the photo above of the 2 officers in early USAF uniforms (with the different badge) dated 1949. I'm guessing this prototype dates from 1947-49.
MattS Posted October 24, 2016 Author Share #12 Posted October 24, 2016 Ah, here is the photo I was thinking of. It's from the net somewhere (possibly even this forum), just not on a cap like I thought it was.

MattS Posted February 5, 2017 Author Share #14 Posted February 5, 2017 Bumping this old thread in hopes someone has a photo of this prototype cap badge being worn. If I don't find one, I have made my own!
