pfrost Posted October 23, 2016 Share #6 Posted October 23, 2016 I think that these wings starting being issued around 1943 or so. Prior to that, you will find that most of the civilian contract flying school instructors wore a wide range of insignia based on the specific school they were employed at--an evolution you can actually follow if you have access to the school year books. However, by 1943, you see more and more standardization between the various schools and instructor insignia and uniforms. It seemed that by late 1944 and early 1945, the USAAF had started taking over, and the contract school enrollment began to decline.
