JasonT Posted November 10, 2019 Share #27 Posted November 10, 2019 I believe Vzemke's theory in post #10 - that soldier's who either had French heritage or were proud of the fact they fought to liberate France would add the patch to their uniform after the war. I have a Ike jacket from a 100th Div vet who went home after being WIA with this patch on the right sleeve. However, his file records do not show that he helped train French forces. JasonT Posted December 31, 2019 Share #30 Posted December 31, 2019 To add to this thread, here is a 100th Division Ike with the Free French Forces Training patch. It was owned by a Howard Seifer of the 398th Regiment and who was WIA in December 1944. His records show he did NOT train any of the French forces when returning stateside, so I believe it was added after the war as a sense of pride for liberating France or perhaps he had some French ancestry. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/296102-ww2-ike-jacket-help/

Red Devil Posted August 7, 2020 Share #41 Posted August 7, 2020 Here is one on a 45th ID jacket. I believe the vet assembled the jacket after the war (he was 45th ID, then wore 7th Army patch, then sewed the 45th back on...the sewing is matching on both patches)

Sailorjerry45 Posted June 15, 2022 Share #49 Posted June 15, 2022 I have a class A tunic worn by Orville P. Reck of the 3rd armored division, WIA in the Normandy campaign likely during fighting in the hedgerows or in the push on Saint Lô featuring the France patch as well. He was a local veteran and commander of the legion post in winona, MN.
