Milky Posted October 5, 2016 Share #1 Posted October 5, 2016 "EAGLE POINT, Ore. - A Grants Pass funeral home is making sure a veteran gets the proper burial. A 91-year-old veteran, Harold Eugene Baker, also know as Gene Baker died last month. Staff at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home says Baker doesn't have any family or friends to attend his funeral. "We put the obituary in the paper to invite people to send him off with a veteran's ceremony," Ellie Olson from Chapel of the Valley Home said. Olson says the veteran came into the funeral home to make arrangements before he died. Baker served at least one full tour during World War II. The veteran suffered from memory loss, but office manager of the funeral home says he was a funny and nice man. "I asked him about his marital status and he said, 'well I think I've been married twice' and I said, 'well were you divorced? Your last wife, did she pass away?' And he says, 'well I can't remember, once they're gone...they're gone,'" Manager Leila Bradish said. Gene Baker's funeral will be held this Thursday, October 6, at 2 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery."
