tigerfan Posted September 14, 2016 Share #1 Posted September 14, 2016 This is a rare cdv photo of Peter A. Porter in "civilian" clothing. Porter was the commanding officer (colonel) of the 8th New York Heavy Artillery and killed in action on June 3, 1864 at Cold Harbor.
scottiques Posted September 15, 2016 Share #2 Posted September 15, 2016 Interesting image-- how did you make the ID? I see the other image next to it-- do you have others of him in uniform. Thanks for sharing. Scott
tigerfan Posted September 15, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted September 15, 2016 Interesting image-- how did you make the ID? I see the other image next to it-- do you have others of him in uniform. Thanks for sharing. Scott This cdv is part of a father/son group I have. The son was Porters personal military secretary. This is the only photo of Porter I have. The others are of the son and a couple from other 8th arty officers. Below is a link to a photo of Peter Porter from Find-a-Grave. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=pv&GRid=6576929&PIpi=53518259
Leatherneck72 Posted September 17, 2016 Share #4 Posted September 17, 2016 I used to own a large format albumen group shot of Porter and his officers with ID's on the reverse. It was taken shortly before he was killed. It shows them all in full fatigue uniforms with weapons standing on the porch of a residence. I will have to dig up the image if I can find it. Here's a link talking about the discovery of the image. http://niagarafallsreporter.com/kostoff169.html
