Pbaczuk Posted September 12, 2016 Share #1 Posted September 12, 2016 I have a few haversacks and knapsacks with small box markings that I do not want to mistake for UNIS markings. Does anyone know what they mean. I checked my Ops Terms and Graphics and came up with reconnaissance for Fleming and medical BJ Obrien. I could be wrong-most likely am. Maybe some has the decoder. Pbaczuk Posted September 13, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted September 13, 2016 I might add this is all Marine Corps gear.
collector Posted September 21, 2016 Share #4 Posted September 21, 2016 There is a sea bag with some interesting markings in Brig's USMC Painted Seabags thread. Hope more members post examples and hopefully explanations, this could be a good reference thread.

Pbaczuk Posted September 25, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted September 25, 2016 Here is my box marking from a USMC lower pack. IMG_1235.JPG Nice pack. Someone knows what these boxes meant. Just a matter of time.
BSPENCER Posted October 15, 2016 Share #7 Posted October 15, 2016 Do you know what that -1- at the bottom of the pack means? I have an OD7 upper that has that marking on the inside upper portion but appears to be done b y the manufacturer.
BSPENCER Posted October 15, 2016 Share #8 Posted October 15, 2016 Anyone able to make out the writing on the lower portion of this lower pack? It appears to start with an "H"?
Pbaczuk Posted October 15, 2016 Author Share #9 Posted October 15, 2016 That is "HQ" for headquarters. Today, that might be referred to as H&S for headquarters and service company.
BSPENCER Posted October 17, 2016 Share #10 Posted October 17, 2016 That is "HQ" for headquarters. Today, that might be referred to as H&S for headquarters and service company. So, it definitely looks like an HQ to you? I think that the second part is "177". Do you know what that would represent?
BSPENCER Posted October 17, 2016 Share #11 Posted October 17, 2016 I wonder if it is actually HQM rather than HQ 177? If so, what would HQM signify?
BSPENCER Posted October 17, 2016 Share #12 Posted October 17, 2016 Martins little box... HQ? Is the stenciled rectangle with the 1 inside for a unit in the 5th Marine Division?
Pbaczuk Posted October 17, 2016 Author Share #13 Posted October 17, 2016 The stenciled rectangle is what I am wanting to figure out. If you look at my third image from the top , it is the same thing. For your piece and mine... it is safe to say the unit used the same format. White background in the box assigned to Headquarters. They may be 5th MarDiv but I haven't seen any period images or any documents that serve as a directive. -P
