I am assuming this is a WWI patch, but don't know. Stumbled on this picture, but can't find anything that looks like it to id it. It must be common or rare! Thanks for any suggestions!

Thanks so much! Now that you say that . . . of course it is a chef's hat! :) I like this one. Do you see this one often? Actually, does anyone have a good place to find basic WWI PFc patches? I'd like to start collecting a few of them, but haven't known where to look. Thanks!

I have one uniform with the Cook's rank on it. If you would like to see it, please go to http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/226895-the-purdue-ambulance-section-598/?hl=nalley.

Thanks so much for the link! That is a fabulous collection! You must be thrilled! Always fun to have the story of an item/group of items! This is so fun about the cook patch. Never heard of one before this! Really cool to get to see a jacket with one on it! Also, I LOVE the cook hat! Regulation chef's hats!

What is the multi-coloured band on his hat?

OK. Here is one more for you guys! This is listed as a 1902-08 Cook patch. Where would this have been worn? Did they just change to circles by WWI?

Rectangle from 1902 - August 1908; circle from August 1908 - August 1920 (per "U.S. Army Soldiers And Their Chevrons", by William K. Emerson - the reference work you need to have if you're interested in Army chevrons). They were worn on the sleeve between shoulder and elbow in the few photos I've seen of them.

Hello!

Rank was worn on both sleeves until 1917 when rank was worn on right sleeve above elbow to conserve cloth. MHJ

BILL THE PATCH

Try ss firearms located in Glendale Queens NY. They still have an assortment of these ww1 specialist sleeve patches. Like 9.99, 100% original.
