pawtwo Posted September 2, 2016 Share #1 Posted September 2, 2016 Hi, Can anyone help me and tell me: 1. What colour of undershirt was worn with BDU and what colour was worn with MCCUU. Maybe it was the same colour? 2. Does anybody has example of issue undershirts from BDU and MCCUU era? Can you post any photos of their labels or NSN numbers? Here is a label of one undershirt that at some point was made up to USMC specs and probably available as a private purchase. I cannot precisely tell what shade it is. I would appreciate if someone could give me any advice if this udershirt would be correct with woodland camouflage BDU or when it could been made. It doesn't have any military contract or NSN. It's quite easy to find ARMY undershirts from that period but not USMC. I haven't seen any other example.
Gumshoe Posted September 2, 2016 Share #2 Posted September 2, 2016 2/7 wore woodland camoflage undershirts with EGA, name, and rank embroidered on the chest when I was there in 1982. It was a peculiar thing our Battalion Commander liked.
Stinger Gunner USMC Posted September 17, 2016 Share #3 Posted September 17, 2016 Soffe military t shirts are the only thing I wore with woodlands or digi's from 02-06 with the exception of unit shirts. The soffe shirts always held up well, didn't stretch out or fade. I still wear mine all the time You can find them on eBay - item number 161104462989
Brig Posted September 24, 2016 Share #4 Posted September 24, 2016 Soffe and Duke are still the two dominant suppliers of skivvy shirts Unit shirts are becoming increasingly unauthorized by commanders for wear in uniform, particularly in garrison
Sgt. BARney Posted September 25, 2016 Share #5 Posted September 25, 2016 I was in the Marines 1979-83, and all I remember having was white tee-shirts. That is what was issued in boot camp and about all that was available in the PX. For field use, most of us did have dark green tee-shirts that we had bought in town or elsewhere. I tried to dye some tee-shirts dark green with Rit dye once, and they came out pea-green. Ended up using them for rifle cleaning rags...
usmcski Posted September 25, 2016 Share #6 Posted September 25, 2016 There was a brief period in the mid-1990's where we changed from green to brown. Thankfully it lasted only a couple years before we went back to green. S/F, Ski
BagmanL6 Posted September 25, 2016 Share #7 Posted September 25, 2016 I initially wore white t-shirts under the woodland BDU before USMC switched to green. The same green t-shirts were worn with the Marpat uniforms when they were first fielded. Not sure what is worn now.

pawtwo Posted September 26, 2016 Author Share #11 Posted September 26, 2016 Are these belt buckles gold plated? They look quite luxurious compared to army BDU belt buckles.
BagmanL6 Posted September 26, 2016 Share #12 Posted September 26, 2016 They are what are called anodized brass. The original buckles were brass and required regular polishing. By the time I joined the Corps (1984) you were issued brass buckles but could buy anodized buckles at the PX that didn't require polishing. The tip of the belt is the same way.
