Johan Willaert Posted September 23, 2008 Share #3 Posted September 23, 2008 For some reason your picture of the 29th Jeep doesn't show up... Have you thought about using the 29th ID Tactical Marks for Normandy; the yellow square ones??? Johan

usryan Posted September 23, 2008 Share #5 Posted September 23, 2008 Hi, A great find !! And good restauration !! Show the picture during the work !! Regards Tim
Johan Willaert Posted September 23, 2008 Share #6 Posted September 23, 2008 Looking at WW2 period pictures, I think you need to put the tactical marking of the 116th on the passenger front side of the bumper and on the driver's rear side (contrary to what it is now.) Also the company letter would still have been there on the other side of the bumpers (for example C-15) There are pictures on pages 110 and 112 of Jon Gawne's Brittany book showing these markings.... No-one knows the actual color codes for the different unit bars... JOhan

Johan Willaert Posted September 23, 2008 Share #10 Posted September 23, 2008 Another example You might think it has the three bar code on the passenger side (left as we look at it) but actually it's the tactical sign of the 111th Artillery of the 29th Division Note that all tactical signs on the pictures are painted inside a yellow square!! Battle For Brest Posted September 23, 2008 Author Share #11 Posted September 23, 2008 Thank you Johan !Ok, I forget bars code...With last modification: EDIT: Picture is lost Regards,Jeremy.
Johan Willaert Posted September 23, 2008 Share #12 Posted September 23, 2008 I think you should paint a yellow square around the Tactical sign. Am I correct you used the chart from Jon Gawne's article in Militaria Magazine 107 from several years ago? I ask because that did not have the squares around the insignia. Maybe Jon came join in and tell us why??? On all WW2 pictures that show these markings in use, I have observed a square around the sign... limestone Posted September 25, 2008 Share #16 Posted September 25, 2008 I also have this interesting photo example in my collection: 29th division chaplain's jeep, photo taken in Sept 1944 near Brest. also note Jeremy that the yellow tactical signs in squares are not painted over a dark paint as you show. FRISCAN Posted September 25, 2008 Share #18 Posted September 25, 2008 For the 116th Inf., 29th ID... ([ll] =Tactical marking)(29 = Div.) - (116 = Regt.) - (I = Infantry) * (A = company letter)- (1 = Vehicle No.) Regards, FRISCAN
Battle For Brest Posted September 28, 2008 Author Share #19 Posted September 28, 2008 It's a mistake Friscan... In fact before D-Day (in USA & UK) markings is 29-116-I C2 but after D-Day (in ETO) the tactical markings replace 29-116-1. ( [||] C2 ) Regards, Jeremy.
