I went to the local shop today and there was a gentleman selling a few thing and these tags were part of what he sold. He said that he got them off eBay a while ago and that he thought that they were 2nd Marine Division. I haven't got the chance to research them yet as my son is taking his ref exam on my laptop. They appear to be either heavily worn or lightly stamped.

Man why can't I just happen across stuff like this? I see him on fold3 on a USMC casualty list as a 2nd Lieutenant, no details on it though

I wish my son would hurry up now! I would use my phone but it is so much easier with my laptop.

A co, 1st Bn, 8th Marines. MAY have been a replacement at Tarawa, however, he was surely at Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa.

WIA on Saipan on 15 June, 1944.

Excellent find !

It appears that he served up to the early 50's. And wouldn't he have had a different service number if he was a officer. I noticed that in January 1943 he is listed as a 2nd Lt and one set of tags has a 2-43 tetanus date with the same service number on all three tags.. Would he have wore these tags in the field.
