JBaird Posted August 23, 2016 Share #1 Posted August 23, 2016 I'm looking for any information regarding these two patches. They are 345th Bomb Squadron patches. My Grandfather was with the 345th during WWII and these were with some of his items. Thanks!

Johnny Signor Posted August 23, 2016 Share #3 Posted August 23, 2016 It is the Squadron's emblem, I'm thinking the Bullion one was a after war reunion type ,the small one possibly a hat size one , but just a guess .........The emblem wasn't Officially approved until 1956 so I'm thinking they would have to be post WW2 in manufacture .......... flytiger Posted August 23, 2016 Share #4 Posted August 23, 2016 345th (M) is postwar when they were flying B-47s. The other is WW2. Approved means only USAF looked at ALL the squadron/Group.Wing patches in the 50s as they must have had a lot of spare time! Emblem was used during WW2 as all the 98th BG Squadrons insignia was in different forms.

Johnny Signor Posted August 27, 2016 Share #7 Posted August 27, 2016 flytiger , "Approved" means they were "Officially" recognized as a "specific" Squadron's or "Groups" emblem for wear , also it was included into the "Official" unit Lineage, and the Official books on either Squadron or Group , again I have never seen the "Squadrons" emblems in any WW2 image/use, flytiger again I ask if you have any Photo proof of them in use during WW2 ?????????????
