Now my question. Were there parts also silver plated ?

This is a Boy Scout knickerchief slide, as far as I know I have never seen one silver plated. I am an old Eagle Scout.

I agree that it is plated -- the older ones were. But how do you know it is silver?

No idea whether it is silver. It could also be tin. For many years in the soil, it still looks very good.
