38Driver Posted August 18, 2016 Share #1 Posted August 18, 2016 I have kept my eye out for bomber crew photos for a long time. Figured maybe I could start the ball rolling and maybe folks could add theirs. I'm starting with 17 crews but I have many 24 crews and a few B-25 crews too. Starting off with the state side photos
38Driver Posted August 18, 2016 Author Share #2 Posted August 18, 2016 More state side crews. They always look so ready to go to work. I imagine they had no idea what it would really be like for them when the shooting was for real.

38Driver Posted August 18, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted August 18, 2016 These next three are all of the same crew lead by Captain Ashley Guynn of the 447th BG. They were shot down in April 44 and Guynn and some others in the crew were KIA. I got these images from his wife and from the surviving co-pilot quite a while back now. The formal image is before they left the states. The one taken by the OD/Gray 17 was in February 44. They look really tired. The one in front of the silver 17 was taken after the crew got changed a bit and shortly before their shoot down.
38Driver Posted August 18, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted August 18, 2016 A few more to go. Wish I could ID the crew of Dotty. Not positive the one image where they look a bit dusty isn't one taken in the MTO. Not much to say about the third. For whatever reason these photos make me think a lot about what their war must have been
38Driver Posted August 18, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted August 18, 2016 Last of the 17s First one is clearly a lead crew based on the extra guys and the rank visible on some of them. Gotta be a radar Nav and Bombardier in their somewhere. Interesting to note the gear and the different flight suits etc. Second is I believe taken prior to a "trolly flight" at the end of the war when the ground crews got to do a bit of sight seeing over Europe in a 17. 38Driver Posted March 18, 2017 Author Share #13 Posted March 18, 2017 Adding a couple more B17 crews. The one in the flight gear is a 398th BG Crew or so it states on the back. Sadly no names. The other is the crew of Lt. John Kunkel. Names and crew positions on the back so a bit of a detective project in the making.
