UNK 22 - ID as a USO Rhode Island connected patch

with thanks to Vance Zemke http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/146445-rhodies-patchwhat-is-it/?fromsearch=1

Possible USN or USCG patch. Handmade with all felt construction. Chain Stitched with single chevron.

Two possibilities (guesses)

Personalized patch for USN Airedale Sailor based in Rhode Island (NAS Quonset Point, NAVSTA Newport, etc)

or

USCGC COURIER (WAGR-410) Utilized as a Voice of America transmitter station, homeport Rhodes, Greece 1952 to 1964

Thanks for the link Vance, never would have suspected a USO connection for that one.

Judging from the other two examples on that topic, I'll classify this as a probable ID

Another one for ID, this was an impulse buy last year. It came with some other Navy patches including a Fleet Air Wing Five patch.

I thought it may be a USN squadron or perhaps a DESRON or CORTRON patch but it's thus far eluded me.....USN or is it an Air Force patch?

UNK 020 North Africa - I still have no ID on this North Africa patch

Anyone recognize this one? Army or Air Force Comm unit? I thought it may be related to Sidi Yahia but so far nothing.

UPDATE: Finally got a positive ID on this one from a USN Vet. It is NAVCOMMSTA SIDI YAHIA, MOROCCO, circa 1971

Please take a look at the other unknowns posted above and let me know if you see anything you recognize

Aloha

UNK 26 - WE TRY HARDER VIETNAM - Unknown Navy CVW patch, Vietnam War for ID

Another Carrier Air Group Five "Going Downtown"? Any guesses on this one or my other Unknowns listed above?

UPDATE: USMF Discussion on this patch

I'm still thinking that this one is a Navy Carrier Air Group due to the Rainbow arrows coming from the sea. Several use the rainbow imagery in their heraldry.

The search continues.....

USS Pandemus (ARL-18) Decommissioned 1968

USS Waxsaw (AN-91) Decommissioned 1960

USS Yazoo (AN-92) Decommissioned 1962

So your patch looks to be from the 1950s

Many thanks for the photo confirmation Firefighter,

I always suspected that this was MINRON 4 at Charleston, SC, just never had the photos or back up to confirm this.

You nailed it with the plaque

You’re welcome. What are the 41 - 45?

I'm thinking the obvious, their service during WWII from Pearl Harbor to Japan where they swept the minefields around the home islands (they were waiting for Operation Downfall and then were assigned to sweep Japanese waters through 1946)

#26, I have this patch from a large group of US Military Sealift Command stuff and makes perfect sense. Going 'downtown' on Cam Ranh Bay? Logistics, not airstrikes.
