I cannot really recommend any militaria shops in the area. With that said, I can recommend this great little museum that no one really knows about. If you can't tell by the address the museum's focus is on the 29th ID as well as many other things. The museum is actually run by National Guard personnel, or at least it was the last time I was there. I think you would enjoy it and I hope you make it there.

Not sure when you're going to be in Lancaster, but if on a Saturday and Sunday, you should go to Adamstown PA (40 minutes North of Lancaster). It's the self proclaimed antiques capital of the world.

Basically, if you throw a rock, you'll hit an antique shop along the main stretch (North Reading Rd). Map below; all the red purses are antique shops.

Sunday you should go to Renningers Antique Market. They have an outdoor market with hundreds of vendors, and likewise indoors. Get there early if you can (7:00-7:30am).

Saturday or Sunday you definitely need to check out Shupp's grove, about 5 minutes from Renningers. Huge outdoor antique market.

There is always militaria to be found at both locations, ranging from Civil War to modern. Good deals can be found as well.

Don't skip any of the large indoor antique malls along the main road, either. Quite a few have military sections/booths.

You are correct, sir! It should be in the same road as the other shops, smack dab in the middle between the German Trading Post and Route 897.

I was really trying to show that there are multiple shops in a small area.

I was just at Renningers yesterday. We got a little late start because of the kids, but at 9:30am when we arrived, there were not many outside vendors left. Don't know how packed it was (could of been many not showing because of the heat wave we are in) but overall, it was sparse. There's about 5 all military dealers inside there, and you can find little items here and there almost every several tables. It's still the premier place to go.

First of all thanks everyone for the information. I was pretty peg legged due to scheduling (Monday through Thursday) and the fact I was on the clock. I drove up I83 from Balt to Lancaster. Stopped at an antique mall in Shrewsbury hefty prices and possible fakes amongst the militaria (I did find a cool WWOne sweetheart hanky). Worked part of Tuesday than headed out to Lancaster, Strasburg, the Lincoln Highway, and Intercourse. Seemed that alot of antique shops were closed on Tuesday and the others closed at 5pm. There was a edged weapons museum in Intercourse but it was closed by the time I got there. Wasn't able to venture out on Wednesday and fought traffic to get to Baltimore to make my 11:00 am flight. Bearly made it there in time. Would like to go back to the area when I have more time and I'm not working.

The problem with Intercourse is that it's too close to Blue Ball.

And if that's not bad enough Bird In Hand is not too far away.

That's Lancaster County, Pa.

My favorite Dutch saying is "Throw the horse over the fence some hay once"

And you forgot that Intercourse (or Bird in Hand for that matter) is really close to Paradise.

  • 10 months later...

Renningers and that strip are the bomb, its where I cut my teeth collecting, and bought my first thing with my own lawn mowing money, a German 98k bayonet for $20, I was 10, which was 1979...I lived in the neighborhood on the other side of the road, I would walk up there and wander around for hours, man thinking about it brings back a lot of memories....

Haven't been there in decades, glad its still there!
