phantomfixer Posted August 12, 2016 Author Share #2 Posted August 12, 2016 I am guessing 1750-1850 time period? don't know if US or not...It was found by a buddy of mine, at a flea market...but looking at the steel...it looks pretty old and based on internet research a style from the Rev war up to the Civil War
P-40Warhawk Posted August 12, 2016 Share #3 Posted August 12, 2016 No clue and not an expert, but I looked through 'Jansen's Notebook' and failed to spot anything that matched. The lack of a locking ring would seem like no later than first few decades of the 1800s?
phantomfixer Posted August 12, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted August 12, 2016 That is the time frame I was thinking....read that some bayonets were blacksmith made...lack of markings might indicate local manufacture...thanks for looking into it Jz
royski Posted August 12, 2016 Share #5 Posted August 12, 2016 What is the bore size? Could be for a children's gun or a cadet rifle.
phantomfixer Posted August 12, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted August 12, 2016 the ID is 5/8 inch....if that helps...that would make for a small caliber .....considering the OD of the barrel...
Rakkasan187 Posted August 12, 2016 Share #7 Posted August 12, 2016 I looked in "American Socket Bayonets 1717-1873" by Donald B. Webster Jr. I could not find an exact match. Based on the transverse and locking slot design it could be a number of possibilities, if it is US.. Leigh

bayonetman Posted August 12, 2016 Share #9 Posted August 12, 2016 This is a Bannerman Cast "Cadet" Bayonet. See Robert Reilly, American Socket Bayonets and Scabbards, Page 126. These were advertised in the later 1800s in the Bannerman catalogs as Cadet Bayonet for Drill Guns. They were made of cast iron, rather crudely cast. Used on the dummy guns sold mainly for youth groups. In the photo below, the upper one is from my collection, and has been painted silver at one time. The drawing is from the book mentioned above.
