Chief D Posted July 29, 2016 Share #1 Posted July 29, 2016 Can someone help me out identifying this patch. The only thing that I come up with is 279th Station Hospital Berlin (motto: We Support the Defenders). Dont believe this is correct. Thanks in advance. 3505 Posted July 29, 2016 Share #2 Posted July 29, 2016 Most likely a USAF weather unit - the symbols in the upper right are USAF weather symbols - the anemometer and the fleur-de-lis. Jeff
Teamski Posted July 29, 2016 Share #3 Posted July 29, 2016 I think it is more likely an Air Base or Combat Support Group or Wing. It isn't shown on USAFpatches.com though..... -Ski
automatic Posted July 29, 2016 Share #4 Posted July 29, 2016 For what it's worth (not much probably haha), the three outlines in the bottom left cloud appear to be F-86 Sabres. That doesn't make much sense for the type of unit the general consensus thinks the patch is for. I should stick with stuff I know about next time... Mark1 Posted July 30, 2016 Share #6 Posted July 30, 2016 This patch belongs to the 3rd Weather Wing out of Offutt Air Force Base from 1956 to 1991. Mark

Chief D Posted July 30, 2016 Author Share #8 Posted July 30, 2016 I'm thinking, Strategic Weather Group/Wing I was leaning toward SAC as well. Thanks for all the help.
Mark1 Posted July 30, 2016 Share #9 Posted July 30, 2016 The 3rd Weather Wing was actually assigned to the Air Weather Service and they supported the Strategic Air Command plus other commands and agencies. Mark
