lakenormanusa Posted July 29, 2016 Share #1 Posted July 29, 2016 I ran across this snapshot photo of a Marine in uniform.Something I noticed was how thin this person appears. It also looks like he has a black eye. From his ribbons, is there anything indicatinghe was a POW? Catfishcraig Posted July 29, 2016 Share #2 Posted July 29, 2016 My great uncle lost almost 50 lbs while fighting on Okinawa. I think it was common for Marines to come back in poor shape.
devildog34 Posted July 29, 2016 Share #3 Posted July 29, 2016 Dysentery does wonders for weight loss. I think more than not had it, especially in the Solomon campaigns. My grandfather had it at the canal, my dad had it throughout Vietnam- he left home in December of 1967 at 6'2" and 185lbs. He returned after his 13 month tour in Vietnam at 131lbs, had jungle rot on his ankles and feet and 16 cavities and almost complete hearing loss in his left ear in addition to the amebic dysentery.
