Lost in mail or stolen

I won this dog tag on eBay on the 4th July and after a week I contacted the seller to request the tag or a tracking number and what I got was ( I am very busy) and then a few days go buy and he asked if I got it I said no. I asked for a tracking number and he doesn't give one till weeks later when I open a request through eBay. He said he printed the address on the package which I never do because to much can go wrong. He was a real jerk when I asked why he didn't give me the tracking number on the 11th when I requested it. It was supposed to be delivered on the 9th at the mail box but I got the mail straight from the mail carrier on that Saturday. He blamed my family my neighbors which I know very well for many years. I told him he was just lazy and all he cared about is that he got his money. If he would have gave me the number sooner I might have had a chance of getting it back. At least that's what the local postal manager said this afternoon. Here is the tag to Dallas Glenn Thomas.

Does the tracking info say "delivered"?

Yes at mail box. That's what makes me mad because I got the mail personally that day and the days to follow. I use a deer camera when I am not home and had success with it many years ago when kid stole a package that had a very nice dove tail arrowhead. I got it back.

reason I got a PO box.

I only have a problem when sellers hand write labels and don't provide tracking numbers when requested.

In over 12 years I've RARELY had any problems with my PO no matter how the label was written and they were rectified fairly easily and I got my stuff.

I think that's the plan since the holidays are coming fast and we also handle fund raising for a local soccer club. I plan on blocking the seller just for the attack on my family. The money was never the issue since I got it cheap. The lack of cooperation till eBay stepped in is also a major factor.

case in point: today, late in the afternoon, I went to my PO box, checked it, nothing there-now I was PRETTY sure something was supposed to be there Today, Tomorrow at the latest: well, I get home, and check the tracking online and lo and behold it was 'out for delivery' at 744 this am. NOW, because I INSIST on tracking and have no problem paying for it, I have proof when I go in tomorrow and say 'hey, this was 'out for delivery' -[note not scanned 'delivered']......YESTERDAY where is it?-so if they LOSE it, well, it was 2 day priority and they get to pay me 50$ NOW, that's not to say, I'm not ticked off at myself for not checking the tracking before the post office closed........[and slightly pissed off at them until I get my stuff to me ]

The post office has been hiring a lot of people in my area and some of them I question. I have seen stories o the news of postal workers not delivering the mail or packages and keeping them. I know they take exams but the caliber of worker has gone down and it is evident in the amount of miss delivered mail and theft. Everyone wants a good job but they don't want to put the effort in to meet the standards of it. It is evident in the workers my company hires too. Its a shame.

I will let you know when I get to the PO to pick up my package. I am 99.999% sure it will be there.

I wouldn't worry too much about a PO box I'm sure it will be there.

actually, one time it was lost- and another time a member here shipped an item to my PO box and it went to a whole different town in another part of my state. I had to call them-they had put it in the other person's box at that address with the same number: the kicker is my town name and the one it went to weren't even CLOSE in name.

The saga continues as I am not in possession of my package after going to the PO this am. Seems I jinxed myself as I am now experiencing the .001% of the 99.999% - in other words, I went to the PO this am and lo and behold, NO PACKAGE- now this is after the guy behind the counter SCOURS the entire post office in front of me looking around for the package, makes a call to the local distribution station and they assert to him it was at his post office......to whit the fellow at my PO has me call the distribution supervisor [who sounded like a twit] who asserted to me that it 'most certainly has to be' at the PO where I am standing..the supervisor then calls the fellow who just got done going through every box, nook and cranny and has him do it again...STILL to no avail and a half hour later and I can see him looking through totes, shelves and what and I left there NO package AND a promise to look some more and to please give them til Monday afternoon to find my 'out for delivery' package.. --------so unless its up on the krapcan in the employee lounge...or went to an entirely different PO in my city, I will more than likely be filling out a 'lost package' claim on Monday.....thus making their up til now 99.999% delivery success rate with me into 99.999- PENDING..... :excl::dry:

According to my local PO, it is possible that an item may be in a mail bag that the PO thinks is empty. Especially if the package is small.

I would ask then nicely to please look in all their empty mail bags that have been thrown in the corner.

"lost" item found by 9 am Monday. :) PO still retains 99.999% best way to go in my book. Thanks to my PO guy Jake for getting this parcel found and given to me in a very timely and courteous manner.

When I worked at UPS in the mid '90s, I found a legitimately "lost" envelope. It was, no kidding, stuck between a stanchion and the side of a truck. The stanchion had been damaged and welded in place, trapping the envelope. We got it out and it was addressed in the late '80s.

Pretty darn rare. Things got mis-routed at a rate of about 1 in 10,000, but even 20 years ago, they were found pretty fast. "Missing" stuff was using lost on purpose.

Glad you got your goods, Thor.

As a member mentioned, small packages are more likely to get lost. The minimum shipping for a USPS parcel is around $2.50, regardless if you use a 4" x 6" padded envelope or a 8 1/2" x 11" envelope. Most of the time, the medals, insignia, patches etc that we mail, ship for the minimum rate. Also, the larger envelopes allow for a more legible address. Doesn't help is someone is stealing your packages, but less likely to be left in the bottom of the mailbag.

Glad the item was found. Good deal.

The ONLY way I will purchase an item or ship an item via the mail is in a Priority box, no matter what the value. If a seller will not agree to ship my item in a BOX, I will not buy it.

I learned this lesson a long time ago.

The only time I have a problem is when the seller hand writes the address and doesn't give a tracking number. I do like the priority mail boxes because they are harder for the post office to mishandle. Other than that my deer camera does quite well. Everybody should have at least 2. There great for watching the mail box or catching people snooping around.
