I got a couple of M7 Bayonets today from my Dad who got them from his work a long time ago as part of a Government Surplus program. One is a Bauer Ordnance Co with a pwh m8a1 scabbard. The other one is sealed in a plastic wrapper.

The wrapper says "St Regis paper co" and "RAPIT SEAL™" and the label reads "1005-00-017-9701, BAYONET SCAB, 1 EA, A/ 4/84.

Is this the factory packaging or would this have been done to ship the Bayonet during the surplus program?

The label code indicates only the M7 bayonet. They were repacked with a scabbard, as indicated in April 1984.

When ordered with a scabbard, the NSN is 1095-00-017-9701, usually with the M10 scabbard, not the M8A1.

As it stands, the bayonet and scabbard could be by any maker.

There was a hole at the bottom of the bag where the scabbard must have broken the seal, so I opened it a little to get the bayonet out. It's an Imperial.

The scabbard is marked PWH.

Is this a post Vietnam bayonet?

Thanks

The 1973 Imperials have the square runout at the termination of the edge bevel, (back cut). The specification changed before the 1976 contract. The remaining Imperials have a radius for the back cut.
