Unusual WWII COAST GUARD RATE

Anyone ever see this type of CG rate? It appears the chevrons are almost grey but the stitching is blue as is the crow and electricians insignia. I was thinking faded but why not the rest of the blue? Any thoughts?post-20824-0-54215300-1467483585.jpeg

Just color fading, not too uncommon for old badges. Different dyes, materials and combinations fade differently.

One must understand that the chevrons are woven cloth, while the embroidery, including the zig-zag stitching that holds the chevrons in place is a totally different material.

Especially with whites. They would get a touch of bleach when laundered. The chevron were also wool, while everything else is cotton.
