Government Issue Posted June 30, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 30, 2016 Yep it happened. I am not condoning what he did nor encouraging others to do it nor is he. Although, I think all collectors of rations have that morbid sense of curiosity wondering what it would taste like. I know hard tacks are pretty expensive. I have no idea if it's a legit ration or not and would figure others would know more. It's definitely old, has to be over 100 years at least. Before you go out blasting him as stupid and such listen to what Steve says at the end. Behold, the man with the stomach of steel.
suwanneetrader Posted June 30, 2016 Share #2 Posted June 30, 2016 Some guys will do most anything to be on TV or You Tube. But I watched it so he got another view. If he had not opened it and ate most of it I wonder what it was worth? When I went to re-enactments modern replicas with maker labels was offered but I do not remember what it looked like. Government Issue Posted June 30, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted June 30, 2016 The exact one he ate sold for $90 on ebay. Interesting, that seems awfully low for a legit one. Hoping someone can chime in on if it's legit or not.

Garandomatic Posted July 3, 2016 Share #6 Posted July 3, 2016 Gh bent company is still around and still makes hardtack... Wonder if that's why it's so "preserved"?
Bugme Posted July 3, 2016 Share #7 Posted July 3, 2016 Gotta give him credit, 'cuz I wouldn't have eaten it... even on a bet. Some highschool in Maine recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of an opened Twinkie from a science experiment to document visible decomposition. As of this week, there is still nothing to document. The Twinike now resides in the principles office. She said that she has been tempted to take a bite. USCapturephotos Posted August 21, 2016 Share #8 Posted August 21, 2016 An archaeologist friend of mine took a nibble of some burnt hard tack found at the bottom of an excavated Civil War fire pit outside of Williamsburg, Va. about 20 years ago.
