milsurp_scout_14 Posted June 29, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 29, 2016 I found a number of these pouches for 1911 pistol mags. They're white, and marked "Pocket, ammo mag 2, 45cal pistol, lot 06, DLA 100-88-FEH26, NSN 8465-00-261-4983". Appears to be a cross in design between the 50's/60's era .45 canvas mag pouches with ALICE clips, and the WW1/WW2 style pouches, that used a snap button near the buckle to attach to the pistol belt. All shiny brass hardware, looks brand new for being dated 1988! My question is, does anyone know whether there is a white pistol belt that exists that has the button to fit these pouches? I've seen white/brass pistol belts before, but only aftermarket versions, and they don't have the matching snap near the buckle. And secondly, were these used by color guards, or ceremonial sentries, or whom?

sgtmonroe Posted June 29, 2016 Share #3 Posted June 29, 2016 The pockets and the white M-1936 "parade" individual equipment belts were discussed by Craig and others in depth, but I cannot find the original thread (I am going to keep looking for it as it had some good images of the different dated belts and pouches, IIRC). The M-1936 individual equipment belt specs (Class 1 for OD7 and Class 2 for white) have never been cancelled. The latest date for the belt I recall seeing was FY1974 and they used to pop up on eBay pretty regularly in unissued condition. Here is a FY1971 dated belt: FY1973 dated belt:

sgtmonroe Posted June 29, 2016 Share #8 Posted June 29, 2016 I found a number of these pouches for 1911 pistol mags. And secondly, were these used by color guards, or ceremonial sentries, or whom? milsurp_scout_14, I have still yet to find the thread I was speaking of. So, I went ahead and dug up what I could on your pocket. The specific POCKET, AMMUNITION MAGAZINE pictured, NSN 8465-00-261-4983, is a Marine Corps item. The MIL-P-17863 (MC) specifications state that the intended use is as follows: "The pocket is designed to accommodate in each of its two compartments one ammunition magazine for .45 caliber pistol and to be attached by means of snap fastener to the white web belt worn by military police personnel." So the pocket you have is a Marine Corps military police pocket. The specifications were good until they were cancelled on 6 April 1998, but they were reinstated on 29 March 2001 and are still current.
milsurp_scout_14 Posted June 29, 2016 Author Share #9 Posted June 29, 2016 Thanks for all the feedback! It's interesting to know that they're a Marine item; their gear is rather harder to come by, at least for me. I'll have to hunt around and pick up one of the belts now. Andrew Posted June 29, 2016 Share #10 Posted June 29, 2016 Isn't there a unique USMC belt that goes with this pocket, with an EGA on the buckle, and without eyelets?
